Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the effect of HPDD as pulp capping agents on deep caries and pulpitis. Methods:HPDD and calcium hydroxide (CH) were chosen as pulp capping agents and 2-year-follow-up observation was performed. A total of 150 teeth (80 deep caries and 70 reducible pulpitis) was randomly divided into four groups: HPDD indirect pulp capping group (n=40), HPDD direct pulp capping group (n=35), CH indirect pulp capping group (n=40), and CH direct pulp capping group (n=35). Bite-wing radiograph and pulp vitality test were employed to assess the therapeutic effect.Results:The success rates in HPDD indirect pulp capping group, HPDD direct pulp capping group, CH indirect pulp capping group and CH direct pulp capping were 100%, 87.88%, 94.87%, and 80.65%, respectively. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference of success rate in clinic between the two pulp capping agents. Conclusion:Both HPDD and CH are effective on deep caries and reducible pulpitis, but HPDD is of weak antigenicity and no immunoreactions. Therefore, HPDD may be considered as an ideal pulp-capping agent.
