Abstract

Objeetive:To explore the role of long-term EEG monitoring, including ambulatory EEG (AEEG)and video-EEG(VEEG),and CT in the diagnosis and etiology of epilepsy. Methods:The re- suits of 24h EEG monitoring and CT in 320 patients with epilepsy were analyzed. Results:Of 320 pa- tients,EEG were normal in 123 cases(38.4%),abnormal in 197 eases(61.6%),clinical attack 48 cases (15.%)taking up 24.4% of the total abnormal EEG eases. The epileptiform discharge was found in 114 cases taking up 57.9% of the total abnormal EEG cases, slow waves abnormal in 83 cases 42.1%. CT was normal in 229 eases(71.6%),abnormal in 91 cases(28.4%).The abnormality rate significantly differencent between CT and EEG(x~2=10.88<.P<0.001).Conclsions:The long-term EEG monitoring can greatly promote the effective examination of abnormality rate of EEG in the patients with epilepsy. It is practical especially for suspicious patients without obvious clinical attacking and aura. The application of CT helps to find the cause of epilepsy.CT combined with EEG plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy.
