Abstract
The length of the 500 kV Wuxin-Shuangjiang transmission line in Hunan power grid after passing the 500 kV substation T connection was reduced from the original 300 km to about 129 km,which facilitated the decommissioning of 500 kV shunt reactors. To prevent failures of HV shunt reactors, operation overvoltage of Wuxin-Shuangjiang line after the decommissioning of HV shunt reactors was calculated and the decommissioning feasibility was discussed. The study includes switching overvoltage under different conditions. Results proved the feasibility of HV shunt reactor decommissioning in the Wuxin-Shuangjiang transmission line.
