Development of Xinjiang calcium base bentonite

Abstract

Taking Xinjiang calcium base bentonite as raw material,the tests of wet purifaction,sodiumizing modification,organizing modification of sodium base bentonite and its application were carried out.The results showed that bentonite content reached 95.97% after purification from 91.79% before wet purification.The results of sodiumization orthogonal experiment showed that the sodiumization effect of NaF was better than the one of traditional sodiumization reagent Na2CO3.The cation exchange capacity of bentonite modified under optimum condition could reach 97.5 mmol/100g,which was increased 17.25 mmol/100g.The viscosity of organic bentonite prepared by using sodiumization modified bentonite as raw material reached 5.4Pa·s.FTIR showed that organic intercalator had entered into the interlayer of bentonite.The displacement of characteristic peak in XRD demonstrated that the interlamellar spacing of organic bentonite reached 2.143nm,which was increased by 0.754nm compared to that of calcium base bentonite.The analysis of SEM was the same as that of FTIR and XRD.The organobentonite was used in varnish and met the all quality index.The adsorption effect of the organobentonite on metallic ions in wastewater was better than that of calcium base bentonite.So the development of Xinjiang calcium base bentonite ore was feasible.
