Abstract
Objective To study the correlation between the level of IL 6 and prognosis of the patients with unstable angina. Methods The level of IL 6 in 92 patients with unstable angina , 46 patients with stable angina and 22 healthy subjects, for control, were measured. The patients with angina were followed for 180 days. The events on heart attacks were recorded. Results We found that the level of IL 6 was significantly elevated in patients with unstable angina compared with the patients with stable angina and healthy subjects( F=7.78, q=3.06,7.03,P 0.01). The rate of heart attacks in patients with unstable angina was significantly higher than that of patients with stable angina( χ 2=4.04, P 0.05 ). Conclusion Our study demonstrates that elevated level of IL 6 in unstable angina was common and the elevation was correlated with poor prognosis. The detection of IL 6 may have an important significance in explaining the mechanism of the disease and predicting the prognosis.
