Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of C-erbB-2 in breast carcinoma and its relationship with Ki-67,and to explore its clinical significance in pathogenesis and development of breast cancer as well as patient’s prognosis. Methods The expressions of C-erbB-2 and Ki-67 proteins were detected by immunohistochemisty (EnVision staining) in 92 cases of breast cancerous tissues, furthermore, these patients were followed up. Results The positive expression rates of C-erbB-2 and Ki-67 protein in breast cancerous tissues were 33.7% (+),11.6% (+ +),17.9% (+ + +) vs 21.1% (+),44.2% (+ +),22.1% (+ + +), respectively. There was a significant correlation between C-erbB-2 and Ki-67 (P 0.01). The expressions of C-erbB-2 and Ki-67 proteins were not related with clinical clinicopathological parameters including patient’s age, histological type and pathological classification (P 0.05),however,which were correlated with tumor’s size and lymph node metastasis (P 0.01). The survival rates in patients with positive expression of C-erbB-2 and Ki-67 proteins were significantly lower than those of patients with negative expression of C-erbB-2 and Ki-67 proteins (P 0.05). The positives expressions of C-erbB-2,Ki-67 proteins and lymph node metastasis were the risk factors that affected patients’survival time after operation (P 0.01). Conclusion The expression of C-erbB-2 may affect the proliferation of breast neoplasms cells, and the expressions of C-erbB-2 and Ki-67 proteins may play an important role in pathogenesis and development of breast cancer, and in patients’prognosis, furthermore, the expressions of C-erbB-2,ki-67 and lymph node metastasis can be used as important indexes to judge the prognosis of patients with breast cancer.
