Abstract
The Chinese painting of the Ming and Qing Dynasties were commercialized and matketized on a large scale.Among the many reasons,the Huizhou merchants,who played an important part in the economy of that time,contributed a great deal.This essay analyzes the market and the economic condition of the time,and the social awareness of the commercialization and marketization of artistic works in an attempt to clarify the relationship between the prosperity of the painting and calligraphy market and the contribution to it made by the Huizhou merchants,who were equally interested in commerce and Confucianism.
