Abstract

It is noticeable that Huizhou merchants paid special attention to teaching their offspring in Ming and Qing dynasties.The attention not only took deeply root to the family members' ideology,but also could be found in their daily life.The reasons are as the following: the ruling class initiated and promoted education at that time;the public held education in esteem in Huizhou area;and the most important is the family's education motive:to develop oneself is to develop one's ancestors.
