Abstract
Objective To determine the action of vascular endo thelial growth factor(VEGF) in metastasis, prognosis of gastric adenocarcinoma. Methods To test the expression of VEGF and to compare the relationship between the expression rate of VEGF and the survival rate, 76 cases of paraffin-embedded specimens of gastric adenocarcinoma tissues were observed by using the S-P immunohistochemistry, and 10 cases of normal gastric mucosa tissue specimens were selected as a control group. Results The expression of VEGF in gastric adenocarcinoma was 72.4%, obviously higher than that in normal gastric mucosa tissues(P 0.05). Expression of VEGF related to Borrmann stage, the depth of invasion, neoplasm diametre, lymphatic node metastasis(P 0.05),but did not relate to differentiation degree(P0.05).With the increasing of positive expressions of VEGF,the survival time became shorter(P 0.05). Conclusion VEGF expression is highly related to angiogenesis, might act as an important index for judging the metastasis and prognosis in gastric adenocarcinoma.
