Abstract
To investigate the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) protein in gastric cancer tissue and its clinical significance. The expressions of VEGF-C were detected in 97 cases with gastric carcinomas by S-P immunohistochemical technique. The positive expression rates of VEGF-C protein were 66.0% (64/97) in gastric carcinoma tissues. The positive expression of VEGF-C protein was significantly related with lymph node metastasis, lymphatic invasion, serosal involvement, and TNM staging in gastric cancer(P0.05).However,the positive expression of VEGF-C protein showed no difference in various age, gender, histological grade, tumor size, vein invasion and distant metastasis(P0.05).With a follow VEGF-C up of 48~60 months, the 1,3,5 year survival rates in patients with VEGF-C positive expression were 59.61%?36.12%?31.60%,in those with VEGF-C negative expression 87.50%?66.99%?58.61% respectively, with significant difference(P0.05).[Conclusion]The VEGF-C expression are significantly correlated with cancer invasion, metastasis and prognosis in gastric cancer.
