Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the therapeutic effects of vitrectomy for Eales'disease with vitreous hemorrhage. Methods:The deta of 13 patients(18 eyes) of Eales'disease with vitreous hemorrhage who underwent vitrectomy from March,1999 to September,2002 were studied retrospectively. Results:The follow-up period was 1 year to 4 years(average,23 months). At the final examinations, the retinas were all attached, with improved visual acuity in 16 eyes(88.9%)of which 11 eyes(71%)reached 0.3 or better, the best visual acuity was 1.0.Recurrent vitreous hemorrhage occurred in only 2 eyes, and absorbed after drug therapy. No neovascular glaucoma occurred. Conclusion:Vitrectomy is an effective method for Eales'disease with vitreous hemorrhage. It can improve the visual acuity markedly.Combined with photocoagulation,it can also effectively prevent the recurrent vitreous hemorrhage and other complications.
