Application of Metadata Technology Based on XML to GIS

Abstract

This paper expatiated the concept of metadata,and introduced several international metadata standards,then analyzed the importance of the geography spatial metadata technology in Geographic Information System. Besides, real project was taken to demonstrate the implementation of metadata technology,including how to use XML Schema to express the structure of metadata,how to use XML to store metadata,how to use XML Editor to edit metadata,and how to store metadata in RDBMS.
