Abstract
Objective To evaluate the correlation of aberrant expression of p16 protein with stage and metastasis of breast cancer.Methods Immunohistochemical assay for p16 protein expression was carried out in 87 cases of breast cancer.Results The positive expression rate of p16 protein was 57.5%(50/87) in 87 cases of breast cancer.There was significant relation between the expression of p16 protein and lymph nod status( P =0.029) or clinical TNM stage( P =0.049).However,relationship was not observed between p16 protein expression and tumor size or histopathologic classification.Patients with high p16 protein expression did not demonstrate significant better survival than those with low expression.Conclusion These results suggest that p16 gene assay may be helpful in understanding biological features of breast cancer.\;
