Characteristic Words of Xianyou Dialect of Min Language

Based on investigation of words in Xianyou dialect,Fuzhou dialect and Xiamen dialect,the author proposes three kinds of characteristic words that are different from Fuzhou dialect and Xiamen dialect.They are words that reflect the special natural and cultural custom,words with same form but different meaning with those in Fuzhou dialect and Xiamen dialect,and words with same meaning but different form with those in Fuzhou dialect and Xiamen dialect.With respect to the origin of such words,the author thinks that the remained words of ancient Min and Yue language are possibly the origin of them and the word whose origin has not be determined.The independent and united political and economic life in local area since the Song Dynasty is the main reason for the emergency of the majority of these words.
