Abstract
This study was designed to observe the effect of Chinese medicine Yi Tang Kang on the serum inflammatory factors of rats with metabolic syndrome(MS) of spleen deficiency.Thirty male SD rats were randomly divided into two groups: normal group,of which 10 rats were fed normal rodent diet and water, and MS group with spleen deficiency syndrome(MS-SDS),of which 20 rats were fed cabbage and lard oil,and were then fed with the high sugar and fat diet 4 weeks later. After 21 weeks, the MS-SDS group was randomly subdivided into two groups: group I,of which 10 rats were fed high sugar and fat diet and intragastrically perfused with saline everyday, and group II,of which 10 rats were fed high sugar and fat diet and intragastrically perfused with Chinese medicine Yi Tang Kang everyday. After 6 weeks intervention, blood samples were collected from each rat via jugular vein and the sera were prepared for IL-6 and TNF-α detection. Results showed that the IL-6 and TNF-α level in MS-SDS group were significantly higher than those in normal rats. However, the IL-6 and TNF-α protein levels in rats from group II that received Yi Tang Kang intervention were markedly lower than those in group I that did not received drug intervention.Furthermore, the IL-6 and TNF-α levels in group I were comparable with those in normal group. These results indicated that Chinese medicine Yi Tang Kang can significantly decrease the levels of proinflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNF-α in MS-SDS rat.
