Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between the polymorphism of monoamine oxidase type B(MAOB) gene intron 13 G/A and Parkinson disease(PD) in Xinjiang Uygurs. Methods PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP) was used to detect the frequency distribution of MAOB gene intron 13 G/A genotype and allele in 95 PD patients, and 104 sex and age-matched healthy controls. The association between each genotype or allele frequencies and PD was analyzed by chi-square test. Results There was no significant difference in the genotype and allele frenquency distribution between PD group and normal control group in Xinjiang Uygurs(P0.05).Neither males nor females showed any significant differences between PD patients and in the controls. The distribution of allele and genotype frequencies in male patients also differed significantly from that in female patients(χ2=3.944,P0.05;χ2=18.030,P0.01).Conclusion Our study did not demonstrate any significant association of MAOB gene G/A polymorphism and risk of PD in Uygurs.Genotype distribution in male PD group was different from female PD group.
