The comparison of postoperative astigmatism between upper and up_right scleral incision.

Objective To compare the postoperative astigmatism,anterior chamber response and the time of phacoemulsification between upper and up_right incision prospectively.Methods 80 patients who underwent cataract phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation from Sep.2001 to Aug.2002 were randomly divided into two groups:groups A(up_right incision)and groups B(upper incision).Corneal astigmatism was detected preoperatively and 1 week,1 months and 3 months postoperatively.Anterior chamber response was observed 3 days postoperatively.Nuclear hardness of lens and the time of phacoemulsification were recorded.Results The actual mumbers was 55 patients (62 eyes) because of failure of follow_up.Group A has 28 patients(30 eyes) while Group B 27 patients(32 eyes).Corneal astigmatism preoperative and 1 week,1 months and 3 months postoperative was (0.91±0.35)D,(1.48±0.34)D,(1.31±0.26)D,(1.13±0.27)D for Group A,while (1.03±0.19)D,(1.56±0.37)D,(1.54±0.37)D,(1.37±0.28)D for Group B.There was no difference.The anterior chamber response and phacoemulsification time had no significant difference as well.Conclusion A up_right scleral tunnel incision was convenient,the postoperative astigmatism and anterior chamber response could be well controlled.A up_right incision is ideal for cataract phacoemulsification.
