Abstract

Objective To evaluate the method and the clinical outcome of repairing traumatic bone defect of the limbs by using big allograft combined with autograft bone and allogeneic cancellous bone combined with autologous red marrow. Methods 38 patients of traumatic bony defect were treated with allogeneic bone transplantation from February 2002 to April 2006.Different treatment approachs were taken according to the locations and degrees of bone defect in patients with traumatic bone defect.16 cases were treated with big allograft combined with autograft bone, and 22 cases of partial bone defect were treated with allogeneic cancellous bone combined with autologous red marrow. Results All the patients were followed up for more than 10 months, and 37 cases had bone healing. The healing period was 10~25 months(average 11.5 months) for 15 cases treated with big allograft combined with autograft, and 3~13 months(average 6 months) for 22 cases of partial bone defect treated with allogeneic cancellus combined with autologous red marrow.Only one case was failed with infection. Conclusion Allograft bone is a good materials for bone implantation, and long allograft bone combined with autologous bone can be used to repair large bone defects, while cancellus combined with autologous red marrow can be used to treat old fracture not healing and repair partial bone defect.
