Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of limbal stem cells autograft transplantation for treatment of pterygium. Methods Limbal stem cells autograft transplantation was performed on 76 cases (86 eyes) with primary or recurrent pterygium. The post-operative follow-up periods ranged from 6 to 48 months. Results After the operation, the cornea recurred clear or with thin nebula. No pterygium like tissue occurred. The vision was improved in different degree. Conclusion Limbal stem cells autograft transplantation could provide new stem cells for injured limbus. It is an effective and ideal method for the treatment of pterygium.
