An Interpretation of Guo Songtao's Diary in 1877

Abstract

Guo Songtao was one of the representatives in advocating harmony in foreign policy in the late Qing Dynasty.Being an ambassador to Britain,he carried out inspection in spite of his poor health in every part of the country,having a deep understanding of the Western world.During his inspection,he found that British people were pure and honest,with technical excellence,while all business in China languished.Guo was an ardent patriot,sharing the troubles of his motherland.
