Abstract
Objective:To investigate functional recovery of the patients with peripheral facial nerve paralysis after operation.Methods:33 patients with peripheral facial nerve palsy were treated with facial nerve decompression via different approaches including external auditory meatus,mammary papilla and middle cranial fossa according to the preoperative location of facial nerve injury.Results:Following up 1 to 5 years,24 cases obtained facial nerve function recovery of House-Brackmann(H-B)Ⅰand Ⅱ degree,among which,10 of 11 cases whose durations of facial paralysis were less than 30 days achieve H-B degreeⅠof the postoperative facial nerve function.Conclusion:The facial nerve decompression should be performed as early as possible on those patients with peripheral facial paralysis that were refractory to expectant treatment.Shorter the course of disease,better its nerve functional recovery.
