Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of application of of BiPAP ventilator in treatment of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease( AECOPD) complicated with typeⅡ respiratory failure. Methods A total of 62 patients with AECOPD complicated with type II respiratory failure admitted during January 2010 to December 2011 were divided into 2 groups,42 patients in trial group were treated by BiPAP ventilator and anti- inflammatory, antiasthmatic and expectorant therapy, and 20 patients in control group were only treated with anti- inflammatory, antiasthmatic and expectorant therapy. Results The clinical symptoms of patients in trial group were relieved, their indices of blood gas analysis were also obviously improved, the duration of hospitalization days had also been significantly reduced; and the difference between these 2 groups was significant( P 0. 05). Conclusion The application of BiPAP ventilator in treatment of patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease( AECOPD) complicated with type Ⅱ respiratory failure is safe and effective, but the efficacy is related to the compliance of patients to BiPAP breathing machine and level of experience of staffs in clinical application of BiPAP ventilator.
