Abstract
However stable it is, and however much traditional support it enjoys, ethic in front of the powerful revolutionary force of science and technology must exhale the old and inhale the new and experience corresponding changes. On the other hand, no matter how powerful and irresistible they are, science and technology must be governed and guided by ethic and must respect its basic value. Accordingly, it is of paramount importance to maintain the necessary tension between the two in the new century. Under the cultural background that science and technology have become a mighty force, it is particularly imperative to emphasize the role of ethic as moral standard and guide to action.
