SITUATION OF 538 HEROIN ADDICTS UNDERTAKING METHADONE MAINTENANCE TREATMENT

Abstract

Objective:To study and analyze the effect of methadone maintenance treatment for heroin addicts. Methods:Patients were recruited according to the criteria for methadone maintenance made by China national experts' group,and the treatment results were analyzed. Results:For all the 538 patients,429 cases accounting for 79.7% maintained in the treatment,109 (20.3%)dropped out;after methadone treatment,482 cases (89.6%)had urine test negative reaction;injecting drug use and crime making had been controlled;social function resumed,104 cases(25.7%, 104/404)had found jobs;all HIV infected patients(6 cases) we detected entered the methadone maintenance treatment. Conclusion: Methadone maintenance treatment is effective in the improvement of social function of drug addicts, and has reduced drug related harm.
