Analysis of methadone maintenance treatment for heroin addicts in Liuzhou city

Objective To study the effect of methadone maintenance treatment for heroin addicts.Methods Patients joining in methadone maintenance treatment voluntarily were received,the treatment was according to the National Criteria.Questionnaire survey was performed.Results Among the 566 patients,271 patients(47.88%)insisted on being treated,while,295(52.12%)discontinued.184 patients(32.51%)quit oneself of drug abuse and criminal behavior,and their social function somewhat resumed.45 patients(7.95%)being employed or re-employed.Among the 113 HIV detected,53 took methadone regularly.Conclusion Methadone maintenance treatment is effective for the improvement of social function,drug abuse and the reducement of drug-related harm.
