Effect of grazing intensity on the regrowth capability in Leymus chinensis grassland

Abstract

The effect of grazing intensity on the regrowth capability in Leymus chinensis grassland was studied by grazing experiment. The results showed that the effect of regrowth duration and grazing intensity on regrowth biomass and regrowth speed was significant. There were seasonal dynamics as one for aboveground biomass, regrowth biomass and regrowth speed, whose peak appeared in July-August. Relative regrowth speed decreased with change of seasons. Regrowth biomass and regrowth speed reached the climax under proper grazing intensity (P_4 plot), which indicated that proper grazing intensity could promote the regrowth of herbage. Based on the analysis on the relationship between relative regrowth speed and grazing intensity, there was an optimum domain of grazing intensity, which was 8-12 goats/100 m~2.
