Abstract

Objective To study the relationship between percentage of sperm apoptosis and sperm concentration, motility and morphology. Methods Sperm samples were obtained from 69 patients of male infertility.Semen parameters were detected by computer assisted sperm analysis(CASA).The sperm morphology analysis using semiautomatic sperm morphology analyzer was performed. The semen smears were stained by Wright-Giemsa staining for analyzing percentage of sperm apoptosis. Results There was a significantly negative relative between the percentage of sperm apoptosis and sperm motility and normal morphology(P0.01,P0.05).The percentage of sperm apoptosis of abnormal motility group was significantly higher than that of normal motility group(P0.05).The percentage of sperm apoptosis of abnormal morphology(strict criteria) group was significantly higher than that of normal morphology group(P0.01).Conclusion The percentage of sperm apoptosis is negatively related with sperm motility and normal morphology.Sperm apoptosis could be one of the causes of asthenozoospermia and teratozoospermia.
