Abstract

In order to study the relationship between the free proline content in Spirulina cells and its cold resistance, sulfosalicylic acid method was adopted to mensurate free proline content in Spirulina platensis(S1)from alkaline Lake in Erdos Plateau, the imported S. platensis(S3)and S. maxima (S4)in low temperature. The results showed that the content of free proline in Spirulina increased under cold stress, the order of the average content was S1S3S4.Low temperature exercises or treated with ABA could increase the free proline content, then improve its cold resistance, however, the effect on S1 was more obvious than S3 and S4 which are sensitive to cold.
