Abstract
The synthesis and antibacterial activity of trimethyl quaternary ammonium iodide of chitosan(TMCI) were studied. It was showed that the obtained quaternary ammonium salt of chitosan was water soluble and was of good antibacterial effect with low dosage. The antibacterial effect increased with increasing of pH.The obtained quaternary ammonium salt of chitosan was a kind of efficient antibacterial macromolecule.
