Abstract
Objective: To study the expressions of survivin and caspase-3 in epithelial ovarian cancer and to investigate their roles in the generation and development of ovarian cancer.Methods: The expressions of survivin mRNA and capspase-3 mRNA were detected by in situ hybridization in 60 cases of epithelial ovarian cancer,10 cases of borderline ovarian tumor,10 cases of benign ovarian tumor,and 10 normal ovarian tissues.Results: The expression of caspase-3 mRNA in epithelial ovarian cancer and borderline ovarian tumor was significantly lower than that in benign ovarian tumor(P0.05) and normal ovarian tissue(P0.01).The expression of caspase-3 mRNA in epithelial ovarian cancer of stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ was significantly lower than that in epithelial ovarian cancer of stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ(P0.05).Survivin mRNA was overexpressed in epithelial ovarian cancer and borderline ovarian tumor.The expression of survivin mRNA in epithelial ovarian cancer and borderline ovarian tumor was significantly higher than that in benign ovarian tumor(P0.01) and normal ovarian tissue(P0.01).The expression of survivin mRNA in epithelial ovarian cancer of stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ was significantly higher than that in epithelial ovarian cancer of stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ(P0.05).The expression of caspase-3 mRNA correlated negatively to that of survivin mRNA.[WT5HZ]Conclusion: The down-regulation of caspase-3 expression and the overexpression of survivin may play an important role in the generation and development of epithelial ovary cancer.Survivin may inhibit the activity of caspase-3 directly or indirectly and thus result in the generation and development of ovarian cancer.
