Abstract
Objective:To compare the efficacy and safety between quetiapine and risperidone in the treatment of chronic schizophrenia.Method:Seventy patients with chronic schizophrenia were randomly divided into two groups receiving quetiapine or risperidone treatment respectively. The period of treatment were 8 weeks. The positive and negative symptom scale(PANSS) and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS) were used to evaluate the efficacy and side effects. Results:Both groups had similar efficacy and severity of side effects. Conclusion:Both quetiapine and risperidone have definite effect and rather high safety in the treatment of chronic schizophrenia.
