Abstract

Objective:To study the therapeutic effect of embolization with pingyangmycin-lipiodol emulsion(PLE) for hepatic cavernous hemangioma(HCH).Methods:4 patients with HCH were studied. In all cases, the proper amount of mixture emulsion of pingyangmycin(PYM) and lipiodol-ultrafluid was administered via the catheter and followed by gelfoam particles for embolizing tumor supply artery. Results:The going out early and coming back late sign and fruits in sign in peripheral vessels of hepatic arterial angiography were observed in all cases before embolization, without arteriovenous fistula sign.Abnormal vessel enhancement in tumor disappeared with infusing the embolism agent. After embolization, lipiodol fully filled in tumor and occluded the tumor vessels. The main hepatic artery and branches showed well. All cases were followed up for 6~12 months by ultrasound and CT scanning. The tumor volumes in 4 cases were decreased by above 50% and the clinical symptoms were relieved or disappeared. Conclusion:Hepatic arterial embolization with PLE and gelfoam particles is a micro-trauma,safe,convenient and effective method for treating hepatic cavernous hemangioma.
