Abstract

Objective:To study the therapeutic effect of embolization with pingyangmycin-lipiodol emulsion (PLE) for hepatic cavernous hemangioma (HCH).Methods:21 patients with HCH were studied. In all cases,a mixture of pingyangmycin (PYM) (8~24mg) and lipiodol-ultrafluid (5~20ml) was administered via the catheter and followed by gelfoam particles. Results:The popcorn-like tumor stain sign and early fill-in and persistant staining sign of hepatic arterial angiography were observed in all cases before embolization. The collection of lipiodol in the tumor and occlusion of tumor vessels were proved by postembolization angiography. In all patients, symptoms relieved and tumor size decreased.Conclusion:Hepa- tic arterial embolization with PLE and gelfoam particles is an effective method for treatment of hepatic cavernous hemangioma.
