Abstract
[Objective] To develop the standards of height for age (HFA),weight for age (WFA) and body mass index for age (BMI) for children aged 6-18 in Quanzhou.[Methods] By using randomized stratified cluster sampling method, totally 65 874 children in 55 schools were collected and to calculate the value of height and weight. The value of percentile and mean of WFA,HFA and BMI was calculated. The percentiles and mean were compared with the standards of China (1995) and WHO (1997).[Results] The percentiles (P5—P95) and means of HFA,WFA and BMI for children aged 6-18 were constructed respectively. The value of height and weight increased with the age and became flat after aged 15 for boys and 12 for girls. The standards of HFA and WFA in Quanzhou were significantly different from those of China (1995) and WHO (1997).[Conclusion] New developed evaluation standards of growth and development should be used for children aged 6-18 in Quanzhou.
