Abstract

[Objective] The research aimed to provide scientific basis for tobacco production in Guangdong tobacco-growing areas.[Method] Selecting soil and leaf samples from the main tobacco-growing counties or cities in Guangdong, this study analyzed soil nutrients in the area and the quality of tobacco and their correlations.[Results] Guangdong tobacco-growing areas were endowed with basic soil conditions for high-quality tobacco leaf production;available K and effective B were somewhat low and the ratio of Ca to Mg was high. The protein content and sugar-nicotine ratio of tobacco leaf was low,and the quality declined along with the plant height.Soil organic matter, total K,effective Cu,effective Mo,water soluble Cl and the ratio of Ca to Mg were the key soil factors influenced the quality of tobacco leaf in the tobacco-growing areas of Guangdong Province.[Conclusion] The tobacco leaf quality was greatly influenced by soil factors,so that the fertilizer ratio should be adjusted according to the actual soil conditions in the local area to improve the nutrient situation in the soil and relieve the fertilizer loss problem due to heavy rain in later period.
