Complications of augmentation mammoplasty by injecting polyacrylamide hydrogel and its treatment

Objective To investigate the postoperative complications of augmentation mammoplasty by polyacrylamide hydrogel injection and treatment of these complications. Methods Reviewing the materials of 1?200 cases accepted augmentation mammoplasty by polyacrylamide hydrogel injection, analyzing the causes of postoperative complications, and elaborating the means of prevention and treatment. Results Of the 1?200 cases, 38 had postoperative complications, including 21 cases of single or multiple nodules, 7 asymmetry, 6 hematoma, 4 inflammation. Satisfactory clinical treatment results have been obtained in all of the cases. Conclusion Full awareness of the indications and contraindications, correct method of operation and necessary postoperative nursing and massage can effectively avoid or reduce the postoperative complications. If complications occured, timely and correct treatment is needed.
