Abstract

Objective To study the effect of such penetration enhancers as azone, dodecanol, and oleic acid on the transdermal permeability of lornoxicam in vitro in different concentrations and different ways. Methods Experiments were carried out using improved Franz diffusion cell with PBS(pH8) as the receptor solution. The steady permeation rate(Js),enhancing rate(ER) and the lag time were computed to evaluate the penetration effect. Results Oil-soluble penetration enhancers were more effective than water-soluble penetration enhancers. The oil-soluble penetration enhancers and PG were synergistic. The combination of different penetration enhancers could produce different effect. The permeation enhancing effect of azone was the most significant, followed by dodecanol, and the effect of combination of the two was remarkable. Conclusion Azone and application of joint penetration enhancers are ideal penetration enhancers for the delivery of lornoxicam across the skin.
