Prof.Wang Lie's Experiences in Treatment of Infantile Asthma Based on the Theory of Wind,Qi,Phlegm and Stasis

Prof. Wang Lie has engaged with his whole life in the study on the prevention and treatment of lung system diseases in children,and has especially accumulated the unique understandings on the prevention and treatment of infantile asthma. Respecting the ancient theory and creating innovation,Prof.Wang established three- stage treatment of asthma,asthma seedling stagetheory and asthma- cough theory. Based on those theories,a series of formulas for asthma prevention and treatment has been prepared,such as zhi xiao tang,huan xiao tang,fang xiao tang,gu xiao tang and xiao ke yin. Prof. Wang thought that the repeated attack of asthma is related to congenital deficiency,acquired malnutrition,kidney deficiency,spleen deficiency,lung deficiency,wind,qi,phlegm and stasis. Phlegm is the key pathological factor in the entire progression of asthma,and qi regulation is the basis of phlegm removal. Blockage of phlegm in the lung manifested as interaction of phlegm and stagnation. Hence,blood regulation should be considered together with phlegm removal in treatment. In Prof. Wang' s three- stage treatment,eliminating wind,regulating qi,resolving phlegm and removing stasis are the general and basic treating principle. In the treatment of infantile asthma in terms of wind,qi,phlegm and stasis,eliminating wind and removing stasis are for relieving the symptoms and strengthening qi of lung,spleen and kidney so that the root cause of asthma can be removed in light of resolving phlegm.
