Effect of Chaihu Shugan decoction on fatty liver model in chicken

To observe the effectiveness and safety of Chaihu Shugan decoction on the prevention and therapy for chicken fatty liver syndrome.The fatty liver models were established in male chicks of Hy-line brown fed with high-fat feeds and treated with Chaihu Shugan decoction.The fatty liver models were established successfully in chicken fed with high-fat feeds plus propylthiouracil.The clinical symptoms were similar to fatty liver syndrome.The blood fat markedly increased in the yellow serum with the appearance of congealed fat.The fat content increased remarkably in the yellowish-brown and swollen livers.In the preventive group treated with 4.5 mL of Chaihu Shugan decoction,no relevant clinical symptom and examination indexes showed,indicating that this formula has preventive effect on the fatty liver induced by high-fat feeds plus propylthiouracil.In the therapeutic group treated with Chaihu Shugan decoction,the corresponding clinical symptom disappeared as well as pathological changes of liver and examination indexes were better reinstated,indicating that this formula has therapeutic effect on the fatty liver induced by high-fat feeds plus propylthiouracil.The recommended dosage of this formula is 4.5 mL in the drinking water.In addition,no side effects of this formula appeared in the chicken.
