Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of Danshen on hematogenous metastasis of primary hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods 40 Wister rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group, prevention group and Danshen group.Rat hepatocellular carcinoma model was induced by low doses of DEN interruptedly. The normal group and model group were given 5 mL/kg normal saline by intragastric administration from the 15th week, the prevention group and Danshen group received 0.2 g/mL Danshen decoctionc by intragastric administration from the first week, the 15th week respectively. After 20 weeks, the expressions of VEGF and MVD in rat liver were detected by immunohistochemical method. Results The expressions of VEGF and MVD had significant difference among groups, especially among the model group, prevention group and Danshen group. Conclusion Danshen can restrain hematogenous metastasis of primary hepatocellular carcinoma by inhibiting VEGF production and decreasing MVD expression.
