Abstract
AIM To evaluate the clinical therapeutic efficacy of β receptor blolker betaloc for treatment of congestive heart failure. METHODS Seventy six patients with congestive heart failure were randomized to take dose of betaloc(25~50 mg per day n=38 ) and to placebo( n= 38) on the bacis of coventional treatment (digoxin, diuretic and angiotensin coverting enzgme inhibitor). The mean of follow up periods was 84 days. The efficacy of betaloc was assessed by means of echoardiography and clinical symptoms. RESULT After betaloc adimistration for 12 weeks, there were more significant improvement NYHA functional class in betaloc group than in placebo group. Betaloc was associated with greater overall reduction of left ventricular end diastolic and end systolic diameter. CONCLUSION Long term addition of betaloc to standard therapy may profoundly improve cardiac function and prognosis and prevent clinical deterioration in patients with congestive heart failure when compared with patients without betaloc treatment.
