Experimental study on water mist distribution and fire extinguishing effectiveness

Abstract

This paper studies the effect of pressure change in water mist system on the mist field distribution,and quantitatively displays the characteristic of field distribution of water mist.It is found that the total flow of the water mist increases with the rise of the system pressure,and water mist distribution concentrated to the center.By changing the fuels type,system pressure and fire location,we analyze the extinguishing effectiveness at different water mist intensities.It is also found that the fire extinguishing efficiency is high under the intense water mist field distribution;by contrast,fire will not be extinguished under the low field intensity.On the other hand,the effectiveness of fire extinguishing of water mist is different when the water mist field strength is low,the fire will be strengthened for the low flash point of the fuels,and it will be suppressed while flash points are high.
