Abstract

Benzil was synthesised by oxidizing benzoin with iron sulfate as the oxidant under microwave radiation. The effects of various factors on the reaction were studied. The optimal reaction conditions are: 20mL acetic acid solution(1∶1 V/V),240W microwave radiation, and reaction time,of 10min.Under the optimal conditions, the yield is above 93.3%.
