Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of radiotherapy in the pancreatic carcinoma patients and their prognosis through detecting the changes of serum CA19-9 levels before and after gamma-knife stereotactic radiotherapy. Methods The serum CA19-9 levels in 40 pancreatic carcinoma patients before and after radiotherapy by means of elecctrochemiluminescence. Results There was significant difference(P0.05) in the serum CA19-9 levels between before and after radiotherapy(128.06±82.46 U/ml vs 52.72±55.62 U/ml);After radiotherapy, the level of CA19-9 was significantly lower in patients who were complete remission and partial remission than in those who were stable and even progressive(P0.05,35.43±18.22 U/ml vs 71.55±63.28 U/ml).Conclusion Serum CA19-9 can be an important objective indicator for the diagnosis, therapeutic effects observation and prognosis of pancreatic carcinoma, stereotactic radiotherapy can lower the level of serum CA19-9 in pancreatic carcinoma patients.
