Abstract
Objective To explore the clinical effect of irbesartan and amlodipine on primary hypertension. Methods We used a randomly and double-blind method to divide 120 cases diagnosed as primary hypertension into two groups:irbesartan group and amlodipine group. The irbesartan group was treated with irbesartan 150mg once a day and the amlodipine group was treated with amlodipine 5mg once a day. The changes in blood pressure and free fatty acid were examined after 4-week and 8 week treatment. Results The total effective rates of the two groups were 83.3% and 66.7% after 4-week treatment, with a significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).The effective rates of the two group after 8-week treatment were 90.0% and 78.3%,with no significant difference between the two groups(P0.05). The serum free fatty acid was decreased significantly after 8-week treatment with irbesartan(P0.05),but no significant decrease in the serum free fatty acid in the amlodipine group. Conclusion Compared with amlodipine, irbesartan has an obvious effect on lowering blood pressure and can also reduce the serum free fatty acid as well.
