Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To investigate clinical efficacy of irbesartan and amlodipine on primary hypertension and the influence of them on serum free fatty acid.METHODS: 120 cases diagnosed primary hypertension were randomly divided into 2 groups.Observation group was treated with irbesartan 150 mg once a day and control group was treated with amlodipine 5 mg once a day.The changes of blood pressure and free fatty acid were observed after 4 weeks and 8 weeks of treatment.RESULTS: The effective rates of 2 groups were 83.3% and 66.7% after 4 weeks. There were significant difference between 2 groups(P0.05).After 8 weeks the effective rates of 2 groups had no significant difference(P0.05).Compared with control group, the level of free fatty acid in serum was reduced significantly in observation group(P0.05).CONCLUSION: Compared with amlodipine, irbesartan not only has obvious effect on lowering blood pressure, but can also reduce the level of free fatty acid in serum.Irbesartan is an ideal choice for hypertensive patients.
