Acupuncture and rehabilitation training for elderly hemiplegia after stroke :Clinical analysis of 96 cases

Objective: To explore the effect of acupuncture combined with rehabilitation training on treating hemiplegia in elderly patients.Methods :All patients were treated with different Chinese patent medicine according to different typing by traditional Chinese medicine.Besides,they had regular exercise and systematic rehabilitation.Patients in observation group underwent acupuncture,including head acupuncture and body acupuncture.Head acupuncture was applied in double motor area,feeling area,and foot motor sensory area;while body acupuncture was applied mainly in Yangming meridian of sick side.Motor function evaluation(FMA),walking function evaluation(FCA) and Brunnatrom scale of lower limbs were conducted at the start of this study,1,3,and 6 months after treatment.Results:After 6 months of treatment,total efficacy in observe group was significantly higher than that of control group(P0.05).The results of Brunnatrom score,FMA and FCA were similar between two groups at the start of the study(P0.05),while there were significant differences in these indexes between two groups 1,3 and 6 months later(all P0.05).There was significant differences in theses indexes in observation group after 6 months compared to those at the start(P0.05).Conclusion: Acupuncture combined with rehabilitation training is effective on treating hemiplegia in elderly patients.
