The Study on Therapeutic Effects of Lactulose and L-ornithine-L-aspartate on Patients with Hepatic Encephalopathy

Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of Lactulose and L-ornithine-L-aspartate on hepatic encephalopathy. Methods Sixty patients with hepatic encephalopathy were randomly divided into therapy group (n= 30) and control group (n=30). Patients in the control group were treated with routine comprehensive therapy while those in the therapy group received combined lactulose and L-ornithine-L-aspartate .The blood ammonia, AST and TBiL were examined and the efficacy was compared between the two groups before and after the treatment. Results Combined lactulose with L-ornithine-L-aspartate significantly decreased blood ammonia and improved hepatic function in therapy group(P 0.05);Hepatic encephalopathy score was lower than the control group(P0.05); The efficiency of therapy group was 86.7% and control group was 60% respectively(P0.05). Conclusion Combined lactulose with L-ornithine-L-aspartate can significantly increase the treatment to hepatic encephalopathy and has no adverse reaction. Therefore, this therapeutic protocol is one of effective method now.
