Abstract

[ Objective] According to the requirement of the appendix E in GB50325-2001,to develop a method for detecting volatile organic compounds in air using thermal desorption/gas chromatography.[ Methods] Volatile organic compounds in air were adsorbed by Tenax-TA thermal desorption tubes, and these compounds were detected by second-step thermal desorption/gas chromatography.[ Results] The linear range of the results using this method is 0.02~5.0μg,the limit of detection is 0.002mg/m3,and the recovery is 78%~92%,with the relative standard deviation of 2.4%~7.8%.[ Conclusion] A method has been established for the detection of volatile organic compounds in air by thermal desorption/gas chromatography. The method is sensitive, simple, reproducibility, accurate and applicable to the characterization of environments containing mixtures of volatile organic compounds.
