Detection of bifidobacterium and lactobacillus in Hirschsprung's disease associated enterocolitis by realtime quantitative PCR

Abstract

Objective To detect the bifidobacterium and lactobacillus in children with Hirschs- prung's disease(HD)associated with enterocolitis.Methods Between January 2006 and December 2006,thirty cases of HD with age ranging from 1 month to 7 years(mean = 1.2 year)were included in this study.According the clinic patterns of enterocolitis,the patients were divided into enterocolitis group(n=10)and non-enterocolitis group(n = 20).Real-time quantitative PCR were used for detec- tion of bifidobacterium and lactobacillus in the stool.Results The bifidobacterium in HD associated enterocolitis was 7.07±0.85,which was significant lower than that in HD(8.46±0.92)or normal controls(8.36±0.80).Similarly,the lactobacillus in HD associated enterocolitis was 5.51±0.65, which was lower than that in HD group(5.79±0.82)or controls(6.47±0.71).Conclusions These results suggest that decreased bifidobacterium and lactobacillus in the intestine may play an important role in the cause of HD associated enterocolitis.
